Hipster Quality: A Dignified Residential House

Creating Scholarly Aesthetics in Living Spaces

The "Hipster Quality" project, designed by Hsi-Chen Cheng, meticulously crafts a residential space that exudes sophistication and scholarly sentiment. Inspired by the primitive gray architectural concrete texture, this unique design stands out in the realm of residential houses.

The front half of the residence is dedicated to the open-style living and dining room, creating a public space that fosters interaction and connectivity. To further enhance the scholarly atmosphere, a room is seamlessly integrated into the public area, forming an open-style study. The intention is to provide an environment where children can grow up surrounded by intellectual inspiration.

In contrast, the rear half of the house is focused on privacy, housing the master, secondary, and children's bedrooms. This layout ensures a sufficiently private area for relaxation and personal space.

One of the notable design elements is the television wall in the living room. Departing from the common marble-decorated walls, the fade-out design technique is employed to create a gradual transformation from a complete cabinet to irregular suspended cabinets or waist-height cabinets. Additionally, an iron piece extends from the television cabinet, seamlessly merging with the wall in a gradual progression.

The open yet practical kitchen semi-island and suspended cabinets were introduced to enhance the generous and hospitable nature of the female owner. This open space encourages interaction with family and friends, while droopy lighting and an iron wall rack introduce a vibrant rhythm to the overall design.

The "Hipster Quality" project was completed in March 2017 in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. The design team, led by Hsi-Chen Cheng, meticulously researched and incorporated various elements to create a unique and harmonious living space. The indigo-colored sofa serves as a focal point in the living room, bringing both visual appeal and tranquility. The fade-out design technique is also employed in the bookshelf, creating an intriguing end view in the living room. The deskside near the aisle features an inclined plane to reduce the sense of pressure, while chamfered edges and suspended finishing woodwork add vitality to the space.

The design of the "Hipster Quality" project faced challenges in creating a seamless transition from the entrance hallway to the main living areas. However, through careful consideration of color tones and textures, the design successfully achieved a cohesive and dignified atmosphere. The result is a residential house that embodies scholarly aesthetics and provides a comfortable living environment.

The "Hipster Quality" project has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The "Hipster Quality" project stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, contributing to a better world.
